GICS (Global Industry Classification Standard) - TOML

The Global Industry Classification Standard (GICS) is a global industry classification system for equity markets developed jointly by MSCI and S&P Dow Jones Indices (formerly Standard & Poor's) in 1999. It features a four-tier hierarchical structure consisting of 11 sectors, 24 industry groups, 69 industries, and 158 sub-industries, with over 40,000 publicly traded companies worldwide classified according to this system. Companies are classified based on their primary business activity (primarily measured by revenues, with earnings and market perception also considered), designed to enable investors to compare and analyze global companies in a consistent manner. It is widely used in major global equity indices including the S&P 500 and MSCI indices.
