Labor Standards Inspection Offices are administrative agencies responsible for enforcing labor-related laws including the Labor Standards Act, Industrial Safety and Health Act, and Workers' Accident Compensation Insurance Act. There are 321 Labor Standards Inspection Offices and 4 branch offices throughout Japan. They are organized into four departments: Supervision Section (Homen), Occupational Safety and Health Section, Workers' Compensation Section, and Administrative Affairs Section. They handle consultations on working conditions, supervisory guidance, ensuring workplace safety and health, and implementing workers' accident compensation. They also have authority to conduct on-site inspections, issue corrective guidance for labor law violations, and exercise judicial police powers for criminal investigations.
