Lake Classification and Types - HTML

Lakes are classified by their origin (formation). Major types include crater lakes and caldera lakes derived from volcanic activity, tectonic lakes (fault lakes) formed by crustal movements, oxbow lakes (crescent lakes) created by river meander cutoffs, glacial lakes formed by glacial action, and lagoons formed by coastal landforms. Each lake type has unique topographical features and ecosystems, reflecting Earth's diverse natural environments.
