Overview
MHLW Occupational Classification
The MHLW Occupational Classification systematically categorizes occupations based on job similarity and the volume of job offers and applications handled in employment placement services. Since its establishment in 1953, it has been revised multiple times to adapt to changes in industrial and occupational structures, with the current 2022 edition (5th revision) now in use. Comprising 15 major categories, 99 middle categories, and 440 minor categories, it covers over 18,700 occupation names and is widely used for job matching at public employment security offices (Hello Work).
