Noh Theater Program List - HTML

Noh is a traditional Japanese performing art that has continued since the Muromachi period, with approximately 240 plays currently being performed. The plays are classified into five genres called 'gobandate' based on the role of the shite (main actor). Each category - First plays (God plays), Second plays (Warrior plays), Third plays (Wig plays), Fourth plays (Miscellaneous plays), and Fifth plays (Demon plays) - contains characteristic works based on Japanese classical literature, history, and legends. Noh was registered as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2001.
