Animal Protection

Japan's animal protection system is centered around the Act on Welfare and Management of Animals. Various initiatives are being implemented, including the收容 and adoption of rescued dogs and cats, operation of animal welfare centers, animal welfare promotion officer system, and promotion of spay/neuter surgeries. In recent years, the number of animals euthanized has significantly decreased, reaching a record low of 9,017 in fiscal year 2023.
