Types of Botanical Gardens

Botanical gardens are classified into various types based on their establishment purpose and function, including comprehensive botanical gardens, greenhouse botanical gardens, medicinal botanical gardens, university botanical gardens, and conservation botanical gardens. According to the classification system of Botanic Gardens Conservation International (BGCI), 12 major types are defined: classic multi-purpose gardens, ornamental gardens, historical medicinal gardens, conservation gardens, university gardens, agro-botanical gardens, alpine gardens, natural/wild gardens, horticultural gardens, thematic gardens, and community gardens. Each type aims to contribute to the conservation of plant diversity and society by combining functions such as research, education, conservation, and appreciation.
