Overview

Green Procurement

Green Procurement (Act on Promoting Green Procurement) is a Japanese law enacted in 2000 and implemented in 2001. It aims to promote the procurement of products and services that reduce environmental impact by government agencies, independent administrative agencies, and special corporations, thereby transforming demand and building a sustainable society. As of 2025, 288 items across 22 categories are designated as specific procurement items, operating in coordination with environmental labels such as the Eco Mark. Local governments and private companies are also required to make efforts, contributing to raising environmental awareness and promoting the environmental industry.
