Marriage and Divorce Registration - TSV
Marriage and divorce registration are important legal procedures under Japan's Family Registration Act. The marriage registration form is submitted to the municipal office of either spouse's permanent address or current residence to report their marriage. The divorce registration form is submitted for consensual divorce with mutual agreement from both parties. Both submissions require accurate completion, attachment of necessary documents, and signatures from two adult witnesses. Following the March 2024 amendment to the Family Registration Act, family register extracts are generally no longer required when submitting to municipal offices outside the permanent address.
